The beach at Peck’s Landing is perfect in every way. Directly across the Wisconsin River from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin Guest Center, the beach checks all the necessary boxes for a great afternoon. While the lot is often pretty full on weekends, you can always find a spot somewhere. Make your way past the canoe drop-off locations and follow the dirt path into the woods, skirting the sand and avoiding some stagnant water. The beach itself is wide, sandy and very clean. The Wisconsin is a shallow but fast flowing river and, being spring-fed, cool even on the hottest day. The surrounding sandstone bluffs provide an endless supply of soft sand. Due to the shallowness of the river, there are rarely any motorized boats passing. Additionally, unlike many lake and city beaches, you can bring your dog along. Pack up an umbrella, chairs, sunblock and some noshes and settle in for a gorgeous day at the beach. Come on a weekday/evening and claim an entire acre of sand to yourself.
