The Minneapolis Institute of Arts quite possibly the most fabulous art museum in the United States. The collection is exquisite, the museum well-laid out and pieces on display are unique and fascinating. No long, tedious galleries of pottery shards (important though they may be), nor endless rooms of dreary Dutch portraits. Gaze into fully recreated rooms from another time and place – ancient Japan, colonial America, a vintage Art & Crafts lodge. There’s modern art, ancient helmets, hand-embroidered kimonos, Bedouin jewelry, Frank Lloyd Wright furniture, a “lost” museum employee office, a vintage car, African caskets… The entire world of decorative art is here. Fantastic and endlessly amazing. Make sure to budget at least a half day to see everything.
