MMoCA is in the same location it has been since the early 80s. But with the massive renovation of the attached Capital Theater and creation of the Overture Center for the Arts, MMoCA got a fabulous new building. Though not large, the museum offers a changing array of shows in its two large, and one smaller, galleries. Even if “modern” art (however you define it) is not your cup of tea, stop in explore the striking and innovative building with its glass “nose” that overlooks State Street and the UW Campus. Be sure to pop by their gift shop for unique presents or their rooftop cafe, Fresco, for a nosh. In addition to its regular shows, MMoCA hosts many special events such as the twice-yearly Gallery Night (open night to visit local galleries), Holiday Art and Gift Fair, movies, speakers and more. Madison is truly lucky to have such a unique space.
