Starved Rock State Park is a gorgeous location, and very popular for visitors. Trails wind around eroded sandstone formations, over streams and up and down hills. Paths are often very steep and there is sometimes significant flood damage. This is not a park for hikers wanting an easy meander. Even when the waterfalls and creeks are mostly dry, expect some tough going. But the hikes are well worth it for the gorgeous scenery and views.

The park site itself warns that the park can reach capacity, that there are significant projects underway to repair damaged trails, and that public trails are closed during a number of hunting seasons. Visit the site when planning your visit, especially in peak seasons.
