The Windmill Island Gardens do not disappoint. It’s an island, there are extensive gardens, and a massive functioning windmill. Like much of Holland, MI, the high-point of the year is during May for their tulip festival. Like other parts of the town, there are huge fields of tulips blooming as far as the eye can see. Mark down your favorites to order bulbs for next year. After the tulips are spent, the gardens are replanted with annuals. There are also the other requisite tourist amenities – shoppies, food, and a small but very nice tropical greenhouse. The location felt less frantic than other sites during the festival, though parking was still very tight even before opening time.
