If you are heading up north on highway 27 to Hayward, Ashland or Bayfield, or cross the state on highway 29 to the Twin Cities or Green Bay, be sure to stop at Toad House. There’s a dearth of art, vegetarian food and good coffee in the Northwoods, but Toad House has it all. Located within a block of the 29/27 intersection, Toad House serves coffee and espressos, home-made European bakery items (including gluten free items) and meals with vegetarian options. The shop contains artwork by numerous local artists. There is also a small book rack, featured titles like children’s book Toads, by owner Eileen Ziesler and an Abstract Design coloring book by Ruth Meszaros. If you are staying in the area, stop by for a fun art course or a sketching afternoon with local artist Janelle Thompson.
