Even if you’re not a hiker, Pikes Peak State Park is worth a visit for the breathtaking views over the Mississipi. A large overlook platform gives you a clear and panoramic view of the river. Strike out on the Bridal Veil Trail to see Bridal Veil Falls. While not particularly awesome in summer (more of a trickle than a deluge in summer), the steep path and carved valley from the falls show it is clearly more impressive in wet parts of the year. There are plenty of steps, but the peaceful trail and overlooks are worth the time. If you’re in the Prairie du Chien area or Wyalusing State Park, hop over the river for a look.
