The informally named Phil’s Woods are named for, and donated by, former Wisconsin governor Phillip LaFollete. Tucked away on an unassuming curve of Dunlop Hollow Road, visitors will need to park on the shoulder. One looping trail first goes up a steep hill to an open corn field. Circle the field to the right for the whole experience. Visitors in late Fall and Winter months may be able to see the overlook view. Most will see corn, leafy trees and the barest blue hint of the hills around Baraboo. Follow the trail back down south for a ferny walk, paralleled by a small gorge covered in moss-covered fallen trees. A short, pleasant and very private little hike.
