The Minnesota Marine Art Museum is a tiny museum with a breath-taking collection of art. Despite having only 5 galleries, its permanent collection contains many of the biggest names in art. Wander among Klee, Monet, Cezanne, Gainsborough, Turner, Van Gogh, O’Keefe, and most notably, one of the original working copies of Washington Crossing the Delaware by Emanuel Leutze. All have a maritime theme – though sometimes they do seem be stretching a bit (a painting of women walking over a stream comes to mind). The additional galleries have a rotating show – all with more maritime tie-ins (again, reaching a bit such as “Dogs Under Water”). If it is water related, there’s some art about it here. A phenomenal collection that can easily be seen in an hour.
