If you’re out visiting Devil’s Lake State Park, Baraboo or the beaches along the Wisconsin River, the Merrimac Ferry is a fun side trip to cross the Wisconsin River. While taking the ferry doesn’t really cut any time off the trip (it replaces a small section if Highway 113), it’s still a unique adventure, especially for small children. There is often a bit of a wait (15-30 minutes) during the busiest summer months. The ferry is free, but you’re likely to find yourself spending a few bucks on ice cream while you wait. The ferry is open April – Nov.
