Ya live in a place, but do you actually ever really LOOK at it? The Madison Trust for Historic Preservation provides a great way to slow down and observe the buildings of Madison. The hour-long tours take visitors around Mansion Hill, Marquette’s Bungalows, State Street, Bascom Hill and other neighborhoods. Meet the tour at the starting location and pay your $10, then follow along. The Mansion Hill tour we took passed buildings we had never once considered. One frat house turned out to be one of the earliest houses in the built. Another beautiful, shuttered old house belongs to a realty company and is used for storage. One old house, a mere two block from the capital, has the original carriage house with a still functioning giant lazy susan to turn carts! A lovely way to spend an warm evening enjoying a great town.
