The Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum is a truly unique museum. Not only are they the only museum in the world dedicated to wooden type printing, but they still have an active print shop. Visitors to the museum can see the entire process of creating wood type – from block of wood to tiny, final, perfect letters. Huge cases of type, part of the one and a half million pieces of wood type they own are on display. There are also printing presses of varying complexity.
The back shop area isn’t open to visitors, unless they are taking a workshop. However, there a posters and playbills everywhere showcasing the Hamilton printer’s skills. Stop by to see the exhibits and pick up a calendar of letterpress classes!
