The Fool’s Flotilla is an annual tradition and part of The Marquette Neighborhood Association’s Waterfront Festival, held in early June. The Flotilla encompasses all that makes Madison such a great place to live – free, funny, spontaneous, welcoming to all, creative, messy, and unique. Anyone can join in, though a safety agreement is required. Slap on your mermaid shells, batman hat, throw some flowers on your canoe, a shark fin on your dog, and you’re ready to go! Boats range from outrageous – with well-thought out decorations and costumes – to pontoons with full live bands, and plenty of people who’ve slapped on a silly hat and hopped in their kayak. Once the flotilla has passed, head on over to the festival for food, free live music, and stalls full of unique crafts.
