The Dubuque Arboretum is a nice little surprise on the northern edge of the city. This free arboretum has a variety of gardens: rose, rock, prairie, annuals, confiders, formal and, of course, a nice Japanese Garden. The large koi pond and bridge are very attractive, though the bizarrely green water was a bit off-putting. Temporary and permanent art installations also dot the extensive grounds. Stop by the visitor center to view the gardens from a lovely second floor balcony.
