Door County is an immensely beautiful region that often verges on the fantastic. Cave Point County Park has a magical quality. On a windy day, there are waves as large as on the ocean. The trails are on a rock ledge, hollowed out below from these waves. When the waves smash into the rock wall, the ground shudders and spray shoots up 20 feet or more. On a calm day, the water is as smooth, turquoise and tranquil as the Mediterranean. Keep your eyes peeled for small holes through the stone ledge where you can see the water seething far below. At other spots you can see rainbows in the mist, stacked stones and caves into the cliffs. The trails are pretty rough with lots of roots. But if you aren’t agile, the views from the picnic area right by the parking lot are as glorious as any in the park.
