Less than two miles from Hilldale Mall and the traffic of University Avenue is the secluded Owen Conservation Park. Despite its proximity to the downtown, the park is suprisingly quiet and secluded. This is most likely due to its bowl shape and ring of trees shielding it from the rest of Madison. The parks trails are essentially one large loop with a few side loops. However, there are numerous, unmarked trails leading in from the surrounding neighborhoods. Wildlife and birds abound, including plenty of large, offended turkeys and mostly fearless deer. An excellent location when you want to get away from it all, but have little to time get away from it all. Sadly, no dogs allowed.
